Reserve Not MetMid-century (c1969) handmade pure copper decorative pitcher – made in southwestern Germany.
This very beautiful piece was made by hand by the Coppersmiths Guild of southwestern Germany. Marked at the bottom: “Schwäbische Kupferschmiede Wannenmacher Handarbeit – 206” (Swabian coppersmiths handwork – 206)
Artisan guilds were typical for centuries throughout Western Europe. Today, there are few artisans who carry on the guild tradition and as a result there are few guilds which exist as organizational structures.
The piece represents the finest work of German craftsman who were organized within traditional guilds – in this case, the coppersmith guild.
The piece has a beautifully shaped, twisted and hammered, handle and a highly decorative border around the opening at the top. There is some age-appropriate wear throughout the piece and one small dent (please see item photographs for details).
20”H
